Artist Statement

These paintings honor the people whose knowledge, faith, music, and traditions transformed the American South. Inspired by the Gullah Geechee community and the rich cultural heritage of West Africa, the works celebrate the resilience of a people who preserved their identity despite unimaginable hardship. Rice fields become landscapes of memory, music becomes a language of survival, and storytelling becomes a bridge between generations. Together, the paintings affirm that culture is not simply inherited—it is lived, shared, and continually renewed.
